CSA exec: Cloud defense demands intelligent security strategy

SAN FRANCISCO – Targeted attacks are nothing new, but what is new is the increasing number of targeted attacks against cloud providers. According to John Howie, chief operating officer at the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), cloud defense is an issue of increasing concern to cloud providers.

"After all, if you can compromise a cloud provider," Howie said, "you'll have access potentially to the data of thousands of companies."

In this video, recorded at RSA Conference 2013, Howie details what cloud computing providers are doing to better secure their environments and the lessons learned from recent targeted attacks such as last year's CloudFlare security breach. Howie also discusses the way providers enable the cloud incident response process, and whether the public cloud vs. private cloud debate is being swayed by security implications.
